What is huddle room AV?
Last updated:
Huddle room AV is the simplified, lower-cost stack used in small 3 to 5 person rooms: a single 55 to 65 inch display, an integrated video conferencing bar that combines camera, microphones and speakers in one unit, and either BYOD inputs (USB-C laptop connection) or a single-platform deployment such as Microsoft Teams Rooms or Zoom Rooms. Typical UK cost is £4,000 to £8,000 including certification, install and commissioning.
The defining trait of a huddle room is that the AV is collapsed into the smallest viable footprint without giving up call quality. The standard build:
- Display. A single 55 inch panel for rooms up to 12 m², 65 inch for 12 to 16 m². 4K resolution at 350 to 450 nits brightness is sufficient.
- VC bar. An all-in-one device certified for the chosen platform: Logitech Rally Bar Mini, Poly Studio X30, Yealink MeetingBar A20, Cisco Room Bar or Neat Bar. Each integrates a wide-angle 4K camera, beamforming microphone array and stereo speakers.
- Compute. Native MTR or Zoom Rooms via the bar's built-in Android compute (Logitech CollabOS, Poly OS, Yealink RoomOS), or BYOD via USB-C from a guest laptop.
- Control. A small touch panel on the table (Logitech Tap, Poly TC10, Yealink CTP18) to launch and run meetings.
- Cabling. USB-C and HDMI at the table, PoE+ to the bar, single network drop on a dedicated VLAN.
Huddle rooms favour repeatability over customisation. Fleets of 10, 50 or 200 huddle rooms across an estate run best when every room is identical: same VC bar, same control panel layout, same room-naming convention, same cabling spec. Standardising the meeting room build at huddle level keeps the installation cycle short (1 to 2 days per room) and dramatically reduces support burden because every room behaves the same way.
The trade-off versus a standard meeting room: huddle rooms struggle above 5 people because the camera framing tightens and the integrated mics miss participants more than 3 metres from the bar. If headcount creeps over 5, plan for a step-up to standard meeting room spec with separate ceiling mics.
Quick reference: 3-5 people, single 55-65 inch display, integrated VC bar (Logitech Rally Bar Mini, Poly Studio X30, Yealink MeetingBar A20, Cisco Room Bar, Neat Bar), BYOD or native Microsoft Teams Rooms / Zoom Rooms; typical UK budget £4k-£8k.
